LINKS CORNER REVIEW |
Reviewed by James Wood
Course History:
The Courses of Clear Creek is a 27-hole golf complex located on Ft. Hood, Texas. Ft. Hood is located near Killeen, Texas and is almost exactly in the center of the state. This is Texas hill country. Courses of Clear Creek feature: Three 9-hole courses: Armadillo Hills, Deer Run & Panther Claw.
First Impressions:
This is a park style course with the usual assortment of trees you'd find in central Texas. There are only two sand traps on the entire eighteen hole golf course and these are tiny little things in front of the second green. There are a few ponds and creeks that you will run into. Many of the ponds are at the bend of the doglegs. There are seven holes with 90-degree doglegs going either left or right. There is also a rock wall separating the 5th fairway that shouldn't cause a problem unless you hit it at a funny angle because it's very narrow.
Strategy:
There is plenty of strategy involved in making your way around if you like hitting less than a driver. Many of the holes have severe doglegs and some require fades or draws around trees. Some elevation changes are fairly drastic. The greens are mildly contoured and aren't very difficult to putt on. Two of the par 5's are reachable in two.
Favorite Hole:
None to speak of.
Overall:
This course really isn't much fun to play and I can't recommend it.
