LINKS CORNER REVIEW |
Reviewed by Joe Turner `Loner'
June 2001
The areas of the fairways, roughs, greens and their fringe aren't blending well at all. Too much contrast to look natural. The lack of undergrowth and the inappropriate trees don't appear to represent Hawaii. Nice rock treatments around some of the island greens. While I enjoy island greens I believe that they can be over done by puting more than one on a single course. That, of course, wouldn't apply to a reproduction of a "Real" course.
3rd, Par 5 shows some imagination, not possible in 2.
5th, Par 3, don't go for island under clubbed.
7th, Par 4, move ball to left, possible tree interference, not sure but why not do it in case I'm right.
8th, par 5, hole not reachable in 2, fairway and green bunkers would have made this into a interesting hole.
11th, Par 5, cool lighthouse and Palm trees are again not much of a challenge. Aloha.
14th, par 4, you'll overshoot fairway with driver, lay-up with 3 wood and easy go for pin.
16th, par 5, where are the fairway bunkers?, If you move ball to right on tee, it gives you long safe fairway shot (290y) 3 iron to pin in 2. One click up in setup trajectory... perfect... bingo... eagle... couldn't do it again if I wanted.
Putting more easy than moderate, very little or no bunker protection on fairways or around greens and lava wasn't much of a hazard as far as I could see.
The elevations were quite good especially for a first time designer.
Obvious first try and very cleverly kept the download to 5mb so it's easy for anyone to receive. I would put this on a par (no pun intended) with Sand Piper... no I definetly would say a little better.
For the size of the load why not, if you have the time to just play around. Unfortunately for him, many better courses are out at the same time. Good go on the next one Mathieu, I can see where your next course will show great improvement over this.
I judge a course by both the playability and by the overall realistic look to it, not as a designer, but as a player.
