LINKS CORNER REVIEW |
Reviewed by Lacy Gearheart
First Impression: This is the first course designed by Brad Jordan that I am aware of. This one seems to be a parkland style course within a series of small lakes. The course is very well laid out and each hole is unique in itself. Not many bunkers are here but the ones used are very well placed and will definitely affect each of your shots. The textures chosen seem to be stock in nature, but look very good with the surrounding terrain.
The course plays a long 7500 yards in length. Each shape used for fairways, bunkers, tee boxes, and greens seem very uniquely shaped. I don't see how you could get bored playing this course. It changes from hole to hole and definitely keeps your attention. The planting fits very well with the overall theme....from the bright trees to the reddish reeds planted in ravine ares. The overall look is very good and the course does often force you to shape your shot so you can set up for the next.
Only a few errors are seen and they seem to be a series of sharp edges on the back nine. Also many will contain sharp looking edges between texture seams. The course plays quite challenging and is very fun and enjoyable to play. The colours really look nice and the course itself was very well done. It may not be technically perfect, but I would suggest you to download this course. It may surprise many people.
Custom amenities: None that I saw. I saw no buildings or placed objects at all. Looks like a natural lakeside design that fits well within the natural terrain.
Greens: Very well shaped, but tended to have sharp edges around the outside. This is primarily caused by the lack of a safety ring of verts between two textures.
Fairways: Very nicely shaped and kept within the courses theme. Several fairways had split areas that made you chose the best route to the green. Very nice.....also did have a second cut of rough.
Tee Boxes: Uniquely shaped and looked good and level. It was very common to have a very nice view of the fairway from these tee boxes.
Bunkers and Water Hazards: Both were very nicely shaped but did lack a little extra attention to make them better. A second texture was used to outline each hazard and may have looked a bit better with the original texture for the surrounding area. This is just a personal preference though.
Planting: Not as dense as many courses, but did look quite nice. I liked the choice of fall tree colours, but a better variety would have made for a slightly better appearance. Overall very nice job here. Also not much in undergrowth was seen and that IMHO makes a good course even better.
Best Hole: I could easily pick from 5 or 6. Each was very original and offered different challenges. I finally chose the par 5, 509 , #18 hole. It had a great view around a dead tree to a split fairway. The second shot causes you to bend your shot from left to right and avoid the trees. This was a great hole and very well done with the exception of the above noted sharp edges.
Overall: A good parkland lakeside design with excellent views from the tees. Although it is not among the elite courses to date...it definitely should be looked at for a good round of golf. I must say I enjoyed my round!
