Modified and Uploaded with the original designer's consent by me - Adelade.

Damian de Villiers kindly gave me permission to update this course of his from 2005. It is an extremely small update that only adds a few specific details (see full list in the README), which is why I chose to not include myself as a listed designer. My goal was to add more options for pin positions beyond the 4 per hole that existed in the original, mainly to make it possible to set up the course to play more challenging while also being able to use difficult green settings. I also added one set of tees (Junior) since they were previously not utilized anyway. They are meant as an alternative to - and play slightly longer than the Back tees. They are planted to be closer to the most up-to-date real yellow tees, as far as existing tee boxes allowed. The course can still be played exactly as it used to be by selecting the other tees and pins 0-3.

I love this course, it is fairly easy but oh so interesting, and now with spicier pins all the more so I hope! I love Damian de Villiers’s original work with it and didn’t want to change anything about it beyond what I did, I think it still holds up well, especially for a course that has been out for so long. Wonderful design if you ask me, both real-life layout and APCD craft. I’m honoured to get a chance of hopefully giving the course a well-deserved second wind with this small update, I am mostly making it for my own personal enjoyment in my seasons but saw no reason not to share it with others as well. Thank you so much Damian de Villiers, both for making the course back then and for letting me make this update.

Course notes from the original release:

The De Zalze Golf Course situated within the De Zalze Winelands Golf Estate was designed by Peter Matkovich [course architect for both Leopard Rock and Arabella] who has made the most of the stunning setting and created a course that places a premium on accuracy.
The course has an excellent mix of parkland holes with its main defenses coming from the water features on several of the holes as well as the Oak tree lined Blaauwklippen River which winds its way through the golf estate and comes into play at various intervals.

The golf course, open since 2000 with the brand new Cape styled thatch clubhouse [opened December 2003] is an exciting addition to the group of international standard championship golf courses recently built in the Western Cape region of South Africa.

The De Zalze Golf Course [co-developed & managed by Spier] has already hosted a number of championship events and will together with the Spier resort be the host venue for the 2006 World Amateur Team Championships [Eisenhower and Esporito Santo trophies] which will attract teams from approximately 80 countries around the globe.

The name De Zalze originates from the early wine farmers who produced wines on the three farms making up De Zalze, namely, Groote Zalze, Kleine Zalze & De Vleie. There are historical buildings on the estate dating back to 1838 as well as a manor house and precinct. In 2000 the Spier group purchased an interest in the property and together with Kleine Zalze have re-modeled the estate into one of the most sought after golf real estate properties in the Cape Winelands of South Africa. The estate boasts a working wine farm [Kleine Zalze] as well as fairways surrounded by vineyards, olive groves & lavender fields, which will all produce marketable crops for the estate.

De Zalze Golf Club welcomes visiting golfers from around the globe and is geared to provide an exceptional experience from the moment you arrive. After your round of golf you may be tempted to relax on the scenic outdoor terrace and enjoy a delicious meal together with a selection of some fine wines from both Spier and Kleine Zalze, two of the regions premier wine producers.
