Thermengolf Loipersdorf 2014 is a real course about 50 miles away from my hometown, Graz, in Austria. I love to play this course IRL because it is pleasing to the eyes and also quite challenging (for my handicap). It is not finished perfectly, but I thought you should get the chance for a relaxed round of Links-Golf on a lovely course.

Enjoy and have fun

CLIPNOTES by Ben Bateson (ousgg)

Real, farmland course
Should play fine at higher speeds, but M*/M* or F/M* would be most natural
Concept  7/10
Largely set on flat and uninspiring terrain, Loipersdorf is nevertheless a creature of some charm and sophistication. As it uses natural planting to its best advantage, the big-hitting golfer will need to negotiate overhangs successfully and there are no few shots required from the undergrowth. The 7th and 9th in particular are holes of charm which make the most of the locale.
Appearance  7/10
Thomas has done well with meagre resource here. The textures are both detailed and toned down, and the variation in planting - both colours and heights - is excellent. The water features are a bit abrupt, though, and the few sand traps almost fade into insignificance.
Playability  8/10
I found this to be a really enjoyable round: perhaps not the most artistic, but relaxing and just a little strategic. Sure, it\'s no great length, and the hazarding is almost irrelevant, but Loipersdorf has hit that great \'small course\' appeal that De Zalze and Hopeman, among others, have in bucketloads.
Challenge  6/10
The Par 5s, in particular invite attacking, but caution is advised throughout: the fairways aren\'t so capacious, and approach shots will require a high level of skill. Tee shots well placed, though, will set up some excellent and makeable birdie opportunities.
Technical  8/10
Tom has done very little wrong here, and this course deserves better publicity given the relatively tame material that he had to work with. It would have been nice with some more ambient sound and perhaps a little extra low-level planting.
Overall A charming championship venue with some intelligent and subtle designs. 36/50
