COURSE NOTES |
This course is far from finished with lots of seam blending still to do. I just need to take a break from this monstrously ambitious design, so I think it's time to beta test.
What I'm looking for is any advise/help on playability as well as pin testing. |

Description Imaginary, concept course |
Location If you need to ask, you won\'t enjoy this course |
Conditions M*/M* should be enough, and you might want to go slower for the sake of your sanity. |
Concept 10/10 Fantastical and literally out of this world, Rivendell is first and foremost a fantasy course, but it\'s one of the fantasy courses that has always been remarkable and well-constructed enough to pass muster. Matt has taken on the incredibly brave job of giving it a makeover - for the large part it\'s impressive stuff, but make sure you seek out the original documentation to give the course its full personality. |
Appearance 9/10 The transfer from low-res to high-res is proving a bit of rocky road, not least in the fantastical gorge recreations and the massive assortment of custom objects that litters the course. But the panorama is a work in itself and the sheer depth of imagination that went into the course still stands proud. |
Playability 8/10 Rivendell is not without its frustrations: some awkward lies, blind approaches and interminable waits while balls bounce into chasms, but there are so many cute play options and Middle-Earth references that it really shouldn\'t make much different. Keep an eye out for Gandalf, hobbits, orcs and, of course, Smaug on the penultimate hole. |
Challenge 5/10 This course never made any pretenses to being finely balanced, but at least Matt has toned down some of the insanities and made the greens playable for the Mod golfer. You\'d be brave to write off the monster gorges along the back nine, though, and going out with a handful of Mulligans is the only sensible way to play. |
Technical 9/10 The main bugbear is the hardest thing to fix in APCD - the reaction of the ball to the rocky cliff faces and assorted other-worldly textures. They need tinkering with slightly to stop the ball rolling agonisingly slowly into the water. Even then, there\'s no denying the labour of love that is present here. |
Overall |
An amazing concept that was incredibly brought to life a decade ago. A little common sense should help it last another ten years. |
