LINKS CORNER REVIEW |
Reviewed by James Wood
First Impressions:
This is a fictional course with a park style setting. The first thing you will probably notice here is the use of dry grass as the rough texture. This gives the course a winter season look. The course is fairly flat and winds around water. Planting here is fairly sparse but looks okay. No under planting has been done. The fairways are a good width but they don't have a first cut of rough. The bunkers here are very large and have been created by popping in shapes with no other work done to them. The water was flattened and then extruded but no texture was applied to the extruded terrain giving you a visible red stripe around the edge. The greens here are too large. They vary from being very flat to bumpy and there is even a green with a large slope. There is occasional evidence of bad edges particularly where the fairways come down to the water or where the green meets the fringe. The typical places you find these problems.
Strategy:
Too many holes are of the lay up short of the water and then hit a long second shot into a green guarded by a lake. There were some holes that required some ball movement to get the ball into the fairway and I preferred those. The par 5's are for the most part are not reachable in two with the exception of the 5th hole.
Favorite Hole:
Hole #18 Par 3. Good looking par 3 here.
Overall:
The course did get better from 14 on. It may have been that the architect was learning the APCD tool and began getting the hang of things. Too much work here though such as the bunkers and water problems has been left out to recommend downloading this one.
