COURSE NOTES
A Fictional Scottish course. Have added sounds done by Zeke (thanks), crowds and hole previews.
Picking the Ladies T's will extend the course on 5 holes for extra difficulty if you want.

CLIPNOTES by Ben Bateson (ousgg)

Description
Fictional, links course
Location
Scotland, rather evidently.
Conditions
M*/M* is best, but I would add at least Gusty wind conditions too.
Concept  9/10
McCoist\\\'s links courses have always been consistently good, but West Coast might just top the lot. A perfect example of both links terrain and how to use it to its most effective, there is barely a poor hole among the lot. Everything, from the grassy dunes, to the beach, to the granite clubhouse, is created authentically, and there are few flights of fancy in the hole design, relying - as do the best courses - on terrain, fairway gradient and the occasional deep-sunk bunker.
Appearance  9/10
The biggest compliment to the textures and planting is that very little stands out as being being inappropriate. A couple stand out as being sumptuous, though, particularly in and around the twin sand features of the beach and the unraked bunkers. There is a good modicum of 3D work and tournament objects, and the only thing that struck me as a little daft was the out-of-place tall ship just off the coast of the 1st hole.
Playability  9/10
West Coast\\\'s balance of approaches is perfect, and with a course length well down below 7000 yards, it relies on proper old-fashioned cleverness for this balance. A few of the par 5s, particularly, are sublime, with key fairway positioning required if you are to shoot the green in two. The sound planting was a minor annoyance, with a lack of good ocean sounds in evdidence.
Challenge  5/10
Even with the wind on, there are plenty of opportunities to get near to the green, and a lack of deep grass makes the course look lush but also allows for easy recovery shots. There is a stretch along the back nine where birdies are almost second nature.
Technical  9/10
McCoist\\\'s best creation yet - you have to applaud the effort that has been put into realistic creation and authenticity. He has mastered the fictional links in a way only previously achieved by Mike Jones.
Overall As believable as fictional Links golf has ever become: you\\\'d travel to any Scottish village that could boast this. 41/50
