COURSE NOTES
Hi everyone, thank you for downloading my first public beta of Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester NY.

Yes, the approaching PGA was the incentive to at least get this course out there. I've been working on this course on and off since 2007 (at least that's file date on my hard drive, scary when I think it's been that long). My RLSA was a modification of someone else's creation. This one is mine from scratch.

It has been a learning process throughout the years. Getting the terrain, putting on an aerial, meshing, texturing 3D construction, planting. It's still not finished (and I guess I'm not finished learning). It needs some mapping, some blending, some crowds and some more 3D work.

I'd like to thank everyone here at Links Corner and at APCD-Courses for their creations and enjoyment of this great game. I've been playing it since the early 90's, still talk about it to my golfing friends and tell them to pick it up and try it.

The textures are taken from Wayne Hewitt's texture pack from the APCD website. There are also some trees and houses taken from here and at APCD. Thank you all!

Hit your way around this course and let me know all your thoughts: errors, playability, aesthetics...everything.

I have test played it a lot in a variety of conditions (not all combinations, I admit) and enjoyed it immensely. There is great satisfaction in creating something like this and getting it playable, and then playing it through all its creative stages (and knowing there's still more to be done). Direct any questions and comments to the forums at Links Corner.

Enjoy!

Description
Real, parkland course
Location
New York
Conditions
Anything faster than S*/M* threatens to render some greens unplayable
Concept  6/10
The Links conversion of this USPGA host is workmanlike but broadly acceptable, and Sean has added a few nice touches to the fundamentals of the course. But in the rush for a release, the native charm of this course has not yet been fully transferred into the game.
Appearance  6/10
The tree planting is meticulous, well-scaled and resolved across the board. But - for a course that in real-life wasn\'t even close-clipped for the PGA - there is a sorry lack of some underplanting and this leaves the rather bright and garish textures exposed. Sean has done his best to draw the eye away from the plot with an attractive mix of 2D and 3D buildings, but the course is still a mixed bag.
Playability  5/10
No Hole Previews or sound hardly helped me immerse myself into the course, but there are a handful of good signature holes that demand to be played more than once. The appeal of the Major courses is always apparent, but in this case, there are extra frustrations imposed on this not-quite-finished conversion.
Challenge  8/10
The decision to include Major-championship level deep rough is never a popular one among players, but it proves to be a sound one in this case. Unfortunately, the greens don\'t have the same precise level, and too much will be lost by either missing mid-slope pins or turning the speed down to unrealistic levels. But, at the end of the round, the course achieves its objective of a nominal par score.
Technical  6/10
Swapping out the textures or improving the underplanting would help restore some of the authenticity and cosy charm of this course and the greens need attention in order to be played at properly slippery speeds. But there is a perfectly playable course underneath, and some of the visuals are certainly worth checking out.
Overall Not quite finished, but that won\'t matter to people who want to \'play along\' with the pros. 31/50
