COURSE NOTES
Database altered to correct error (HD textures) - 17 Jul 2014

I always like to try new techniques and approaches on each course I create. With this course, my aim was to create a more realistic feel, and to this end, I began with a real layout (rather than just my crazy brain) and then modified it to suit my tastes, and the Links game.
Instead of starting with a generated terrain, I also decided that this time I would start on a completely flat mesh for a change - adding in the elevations later in the design process. I also wanted to keep to a stock planting set as much as possible, with just some minor editing, rather than lots of custom objects.
The textures have been recycled from my other courses too, though they have all probably been modified in some way. I'm either becoming greener.... or lazier! lol
The course was only tested on the mixed setting Mod Fast(CH) (my favourite in Links 1.07), but is probably playable on all settings, as I don't think there are any particularly severe greens or pin placements here.
With the emphasis on realism this time, the course has been designed for playing off of the back or middle tees in Links 2003 (unlike my earlier courses which were designed to play from random tees), and is a more forgiving experience than some of my more extreme creations. No doubt, some people will prefer this while others won't.

Thanks as always go to my brother Mike, and our mate Shez for the testing. (I love playing Links online with you guys!)

All the best............ Lez

CLIPNOTES by Ben Bateson (ousgg)

Description
Fictional, woodland course
Location
Not specifically stated, but this is very reminiscent of some courses I have played in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.
Conditions
I don\\\'t think this needs to be played too fast: M*/M* strikes a nice balance.
Concept  7/10
Based on a real layout - Lez tantalisingly doesn\\\'t tell us WHICH real layout - this is a proper back-to-basics attempt to create a pleasant, authentic course. It works well for the large extent, the 7th hole being a standout ridge-top Par 4, but the latter holes are just stretched a little bit further than the type of course would warrant.
Appearance  10/10
Pretty flawless stuff from Lez. The textures are a delight, the planting hugely apt for the location, and it\\\'s topped off with an original-creation clubhouse Take a good close look at the texture rings around the greens and bunkers - they\\\'re as well blended as any you\\\'ll see.
Playability  8/10
Lez has created an excellent and exciting course here with a minimum of hazarding, elevations and other fanciness, which is testament to his skills as a designer. If there is any complaint, it is too-frequent \\\'bunker on a drive length\\\' which doesn\\\'t quite ring true - if you\\\'re creating a slightly more downmarket course, the Links player should be driving many of the fairway bunkers.
Challenge  8/10
Excellently balanced for the large part and using Lez\\\'s green-speed suggestions will result in a score pretty close to Par. Quite a few fairways are a fraction narrow, even when trying to lay up, but - except for one or two notables - the green complexes are relatively undemanding. The eponymous woods serve more as decoration than an active hazard.
Technical  9/10
Very little to fault here, other than a mite of blockiness on some linear features and shapes. Lez is probably the most consistent designer for the game at the time of writing and has only his own reputation to live up to.
Overall A nice change of pace from Lez: bringing golf back to basics with some clever and elegant hole design. 42/50
