The Glen for Links 2003
by Robert Miller

Welcome to my first fictional course for links 2003. I have created many real life courses for our favorite golf simulation, but never a fictional.

This course pushed the APCD to the limit. The clubhouse was created 2 years ago and sat on my hard drive waiting for a course to be created around it. After maxing out the APCD with Whistling Straits and a quick bow out with Engineers, I figured I'd revisit the file.

I couldn't let the file go to waste. Using the clone tool, I was able to clone thousands of bunkers and thousands of wood planks to create a Pete Dye/Robert Miller twisted fantasy course, causing the APCD to smoke each time I saved a file.

This may not be possible in real life to create, but it sure could be in the virtual reality world of Links.

Enjoy the course and marvel in the massive amount of 3d…more than 550,000 verts and enough mappings to cause a designer brain damage.

PLEASE…play with shadows on (I can't stress this enough), and if you can, get an old nVidia card and play on windows XP with AA and AF enabled for the best resolution. I have a separate dedicated drive with windows XP on it just for links.

Enjoy my other courses…Bethpage Black, Shinnecock, Pinehurst, Pine Valley, Whistling Straits and Engineers CC.
Clubhouses and 3d in other courses…Shaking tree, Twin Mallard, Royal Kenya, Edgbaston, Pilgrim Trails houses.

Thanks to..Rehit for hosting files and keeping things going at APCDcourses, to Mailman who tested the ATI video card clubhouse bug files, Mogulbasher for APCD clone tool, Daniel for initial pano I've used all these years, MJ for inspiration, and everyone else at LC like Guitman etc.

Happy 10th year anniversary Links 2003!!!!

This file contains 2 versions of the course.
A one toned fairway version and a two toned fairway version.

Description
Fictional, estate course
Location
None given, but it\\\'s not hard to put this somewhere by the Great Lakes
Conditions
M*/M* creates a fair challenge.
Concept  7/10
Rob Miller\'s first fictional course, after all these years! Although there\'s plenty of technical wizardry from Doctor Rob and some excellent understated holes, in truth the overall feel of the course is a little uneven - the grasslands don\'t really locate themselves, and the big art-deco clubhouse looks ridiculously out of place out here in the woods. Keep an eye out for the outstandingly fun holes at the end of each half.
Appearance  10/10
The Glen is all about the planks. Literally hundreds of them shore up the bunkers and indeed pretty much every elevation change. That\'s not to say the rest of the course isn\'t fabulous, because of course - this being Rob Miller - it is. The bunker rings are works of multi-layered art (who else blends textures in both directions here?), and the planting is willowy and varied. There are some off-the-wall treats in the shape of a waterfall and no end of ornamentation on the clubhouse.
Playability  9/10
It\'s nice to see some restraint, and the few breather holes tucked in between the showboating ones are a welcome change. It\'s also a rare course where an extended trip to the bunkering can be said to be enjoyable! What I like most is the way the varying levels of rough have been judged and pitched - slightly off-line shots rarely get punished, but wild ones often do.
Challenge  8/10
At a fairly modest length and some eminently beatable Par 3s, The Glen should yield a few strokes each round. Sensible club selection off the tee will nearly always result in an easily approach for Par, given the relative lack of greenside hazards. There is also a pleasant gradient of difficulty going up the back nine, where the pickings become noticeably slimmer.
Technical  10/10
Perhaps for the array of woodwork alone, this course has earned its spurs. Rob Miller has yet again set a very, very high bar for others to straddle.
Overall Now available for free, this is a must-have course to see yet another marvellous original take on APCD visuals. 44/50
