LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Lacy Gearheart

First Impression: This is The first design by Gus Metz. It is a fictional mountain course that plays at 6903 yards from the back tees. It does play much longer due to usually playing shots up extreme elevations of 60 feet and more on many shots. The fairways are narrow in most places and are very difficult to land on. They tend to bend many times never giving you a direct shot to the green. Almost every tee shot forces you to shape your shot. Due to the common doglegged fairway....it is common to use a 4I off the tee on a long par 4 or par 5. I would estimate that half of the approach shots are blind. They are either blocked by trees or are so extremely uphill/downhill that you dont have a view of the green at all. This is one course that the top camera is mandatory if you want a chance to shoot well.

Most holes have extreme elevations that leave you guessing on the best way to approach the green. I was having a tough time aiming my shots. The trees usually blocked your view to the green. A few of the tee shots were covered by trees. The #11 hole had a tiny chute of trees 20 feet wide... so you had to thread you tee shot just to even have a shot at the fairway. I would say 5 holes penalized you for perfect center tee shots. you could be dead center of the fairway and find a grove of trees between you and the green...especially the par fives and long par 4s. The best way to describe the shape of the fairways was "Snakelike"

Overall a decent course with lots of elevation changes and numerous bad lies. Not the GREAT clicking people out there....this is a good example of risk/reward. but for the average clicker and PS player....its more like risk/risk. I personally saw no chance to be rewarded for good shots. Too tough for me personally, but many will like it for the extreme challenge.

Custom amenities: I saw one building on the back nine and not much else. The hills and elevations covered alot up.

Greens: They were pretty good on the front nine, but got pretty bad on the back. A 6 foot incline for a 17 foot putt is a little bit out of my league. In many cases they looked like they were rushed.

Fairways: Very narrow and full of extreme elevation changes. I did not see one flat lie. They bent many times on each hole and even on a perfect shot.....you did not have a good chance at the green much less birdie. No second cut of rough was noted.

Tee Boxes: Stock shaped and flat. Flower beds were planted on all holes and that brightened the course up a bit.

Bunkers and Water Hazards: The were nicely shaped but lacked depth and the same goes for the water hazards. No lips were noted. Many holes did not contain bunkers nor water. The few bunkers were not really in play except on a few holes.

Planting: Overall it was pretty good...more under planting would have added a bit more to the look. Decent job here. The flowers looked good and they were grouped well.

Best Hole: Many were so difficult I was too frustrated to choose. I chose the nice par 4 420 yard #8 hole. It was one of the few straight holes that was not full of extreme undulations. It was easily the most playable and nicest looking hole on the course.

Overall: A decent mountain course that will be an extreme challenge. The narrow fairways and extreme elevations make this a tough course to score on unless you are proficient on all aspects of the game. Clickers that love extreme challenges...this may be for you. I find it too tough and too much work and felt it did not reward you for good shots. But I will let you all decide for yourselves.
