The Course -
Few courses show promise or potential, and the Hall of Famed Courses lack quite a few spaces, but this course would be well presented to knock on the door at least.
Set in the usual parklands, amidst a flurry of trees, and a winding river, which claims to become a waterfall around the 7th hole, the course is decorated well with a variety of features that make it look exciting and confusing. I have to confess upon the first hole, I saw a lot of trees that initially confused me as to their location, but this happens a few times throughout the course, and is something you need to grips with very quickly. The hole layouts are very good. Most, if not all, have a treeline in your sight of shot, making club lengths necessary to question. Bunkers are also placed where the fairway narrows, asking for accuracy on longer shots. A good blend of challenge is offered from the tee on many holes. The 2nd shots can again call upon the trees, and the greens are some of the tricky ones too. The 3rd green boasts a huge 4ft tier that will reduce any grown golfer to tears.
The other features noted in this course also stand out. The flowers upon every tee, spelling out the hole number. All fairways, fringes and greens are extruded too. And bunkers are actually bunkers. But in most of these features there could be some more work added to make them just that touch more visually correct. Every extrusion in the course is exactly that, straight down. Fairways edged extrusions could have been better on the hardness detail. Same with the fringe/greens, they are sharp edges, although hardly noticeable, but in some lies, they stand out. Bunkers are similar, although they have the hardness taken off, they remain too `straight-down'. Any shot in the sand against a face is impossible to lift out, more slope could have been added to help shots out and claim more in too. The winding river also appeared like this is a lot of places.
Not pulling the course into question, but the view between the 9th and 10th of the houses and car/road was indeed good to see. The road running parallel to the 10th fairway was fun to hit for extra roll and bounce, as it is a playable lie and not penalised. And finally, although some odd areas looked like shadows in top views or poss a line out of place, the course did its best to ensure every round will new problems for many golfers. It is a challenge.
