COURSE NOTES |
As I no longer own the file (it now belongs to the club) there will be no read me or any extras in the zip file, so I will say my thank you's here.
As you may know this is my 1st course to have commissioned as a commercial project via my company Golfgraffix. The course has been created from a .25' bespoke elevation file, so in terms of accuracy it is very close, I can't begin to say how happy I am with the outcome, this is my best work to date.
The club have allowed me to release it here and at Mick's, this was not always the case so thank you to Ian Mc Guinness, the clubs owner.
I am working on 3 other courses as we speak but I have no idea if they will allow a public release, I have found out that most clubs are fiercely protective of the image.
The club will be promoting this among its 500 members, so it would expect some of them coming here to purchase the game, they will be linking there site to the links 2k3 download here, so that may generate a few shillings for the site.
As most of the club members will have never heard of Links 2k3 I will be placing a small video promo on their site, for the mo it can be viewed here
http://www.golfgraffix.com/Promo.html
The course has been well tested and no major faults have been found, there are some very small anomalies with how two seem blends are categorised (tee-rough & water to lip) but these should not have any effect on game play. There is also a shadow on the hotel that I just cannot get rid of.
Most of the textures are custom 1024's so 1.07 is needed, the main Rough texture is a derivation of Dr. Robs rough, thanks Rob and the green texture is from MJ's Crystal Pines.
A big thank to Mick, AJ and MJ how helped to convert the AutoCAD file and hosted the beta.
Lots of Curt's custom trees, thank you Curt.
The pano is an offset version of Daniel's Country Side pano, thank you for a perfect match.
My beta testers, thank you all for your time, I very much appreciate it.

CLIPNOTES by Ben Bateson (ousgg) |
Description Real, estate course |

Concept 9/10 Plenty of designers have plumped for a down-to-Earth links version of a
local course. John Aherne took the concept a step further and actually
made a business of it! This course represents a superb advert for the
golf club and, what's more, a superb round of golf. Although
unprepossessing, there's some exciting hazard placement at
Roganstown, a good variation in green complexes, and the whole thing
is topped off by the magnificent 11th hole. This is much, much more
than just another home-town course. |
Appearance 10/10 At a time when so many designers are putting their efforts into huge, barren, championship courses, this is almost a return to old
values. The gorgeous water planting, variety of stakes and 3D bridges and fences don't seem to be replicated as often as they used to.
The planting crowns the whole thing, being photo-realistic and varied. |
Playability 9/10 Roganstown takes the prize for atmosphere. The sounds - yet another aspect which is too often neglected now - are placed superbly
and you really get a lifelike feel for the course's surroundings. The hole types don't disappoint, either - the Par 3s are genuinely inviting
and there are 2-shot and 3-shot Par 5s. There's a decent amount of repeatability too: don't get the impression that these holes are
one-way only. |
Challenge 3/10 While I'm sure the course is a decent challenge for its club golfers, in Links it suffers from the same problem as many others. You'd be
pretty desperate to clock up a number of bogeys here, although thankfully the intelligent hole design and some realistically challenging
greens prevent silly scores. |
Technical 10/10 The minutiae of the course, in this case, are really a credit to its designer. The effort to get things correct is obvious, and this course is
the most involving and stimulating yet from John Aherne. |
Overall |
A glorious 'little' course which belies its status with some adventurous but realistic
hole designs. |
41/50 |
