LINKS CORNER REVIEW |
Reviewed by James Wood
First Impressions:
A park style setting with quite a few lakes as the name of the course suggests. Weeping willow type trees have been used here and there is an occasional house and some boats on the lakes. Bright flowers among the tee boxes that are edged in stone have been used throughout the course. I'm not a big fan of these types of tee boxes, as I have never seen them on a real course. It always gives the course a fantasy feel to me. There is no under planting. The orange sand bunkers have not been extruded and a cut of rough is used as a border on them although they seemed to get better as the course progressed. There are also a few areas where no texture was used and these show up as a red line. There are occasional bad edges and some of the elevations have not been done well especially around the greens.
Strategy:
It's not really good strategy to have to lay-up short on your drive when teeing off on a par 5 even if it is unreachable. This was actually repeated twice, once on the 2nd hole and again on the 17th. There are also a few lay-ups on par 4's that didn't feel right in the layout. The fairways though are very generous although a few of the greens were too sloped.
Favorite Hole:
I did like the look of the tee shot on the 2nd hole even though it was one of the par 5's that required a lay-up on the tee shot.
Overall:
Quite a few technical errors are obvious but the real shortcomings are in the layout itself. I cannot recommend this one.
