COURSE NOTES
Mountain Pass is set in rolling hills with the whistler panorama.

It includes a logo, custom flag, splash screens and hole previews. I have for the first time included hole signs. They may not be in the appropriate technical position on the course but having spent time on developing them I wanted them to be seen from the back tees. If this is not to your taste you could always move them as the course is not locked. The course includes custom textures except for water, bunkers and paths. I have tested it with the 1.06 mod. As a result I modified a number of the greens as they were too difficult. I hope you enjoy playing it.

LINKS CORNER REVIEW

My Thoughts on Mountain Pass:

Mountain Pass reminds me of that local municipal course that everyone has played one time or another. It doesn't favor just one kind of player. It's a open golf course with wide fairways, small undulating greens, and fair, and sometimes penal bunkering. What impressed me most about this course is how natural it looked. The elevations didn't looked like it was man made and the designer made good use of the land before him. Each hole is beautifully framed into the elevation and wide variety of shots are required here. Mountain Pass has plenty of risk/reward holes where going for broke can square up a tight match or leave you swimming with the fishes.

I really enjoyed my practice rounds on this course. Mountain Pass isn't too demanding off the tee so it's playable to all levels of players. This is a second shot golf course. You'll need a good sense of distance control when hitting iron approach shots into the greens. Unlike most courses for Links, it actually helps if you shape the ball off the tee on this layout. You are then able to have better angles to the greens which makes it easier to score. A good short game is needed if you stray from the greens on your approach.

My only complaints about this course deal with the color of the textures. They didn't fit my eye too well because of the darkness of them. Although the designer did make a nice choice of the bunker texture to offset the darkness in the other textures. The hole markers were a little large. On each tee you were given a chance to see the hole on your left side of the screen, I just thought it was a little large and could have been a little smaller. Planting on the course was somewhat repetitive in spots and could have used more undergrowth and more grasses on the hills and knolls on some of the holes. And in some cases, some of the grasses were a little too large.

Holes to look for:
One of my favorite holes on this golf course was the 7th hole. You're greeted with a uphill tee shot to a wide, undulating fairway. Then you must negotiate a downhill approach to a sloping green which is guarded by three bunkers. Putting on this surface is hard due to the well sloped green. You must have total speed control cause this is one of the harder greens on the course.

The par 5 9th hole provides a nice risk/reward option on the 2nd shot if you plan to go for the green. A long shot over water to a tucked pin on a sloping green is what greets you. Take it on if you dare, but if a little wind kicks up, or if you mishit your shot just a little bit, you're in for a watery grave.

Another good hole on the golf course is the par 3 12th hole. It's a beautiful downhill par 3 that is framed into the natural beauty of the layout. It's not a hole you take for granted either. The green is tough to putt on and it is essential to have good distance control on the tee shot to hit the right tier of the green.

Recommendation:
I would recommend giving this course a try. It's a course that will remain on my hard drive and burned to a CD for future enjoyment.
