LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Designer: This is James Schuster's first course release.

Course: Considering this course is nearly 9000 yards in length, and is a Par 76, players will find this course extremely difficult to play. Even though the course is difficult, it is only because of the length of each hole, as the bunkers and water generally don't come into play due to the lack of hazards around the course. Unfortunately, this Fictional Woodland course offers nothing unique to differ itself from any other previous release of the same style.

Favourite Hole: My favourite hole would be the Par 3 on Hole 4, as with trees to the left of the tee, players may not be aware of the risk to the left of the green, where water awaits those who spray their drive off the tee.

Playability: The Par 3's are standard target golf holes, while many of the Par 4's are very similar in design. Even with multiple Par 5's on the course, eagle opportunities aren't possible, with all of the Par 5's being three shot holes. The key to playing this course successfully is to stay accurate off the tee, as par won't be possible if any drives land outside of the fairway due to the length of each hole.

Technically: With no quality APCD techniques being used anywhere around the course, the design seemed to be more reminiscent of a 2001 course. Bunkers were poorly created and had no lips, while no seam blending was used between any of the textures. The fairways needed to be smoothed better, while the water had no edge with the land. Tees were not positioned properly, while repetitive planting existed in many areas. The main problem was that the course just wasn't cleaned up in many areas, with many errors being visible to even the uneducated player. In the future I would encourage the designer to get his course beta tested, as in this case, it would have probably been recommended that the design was nowhere near the stage of being released.

Other: The course doesn't have a cameo, handicaps, hole previews or a splash screen. All I could recommend to the designer would be to read as many tutorials as possible, as with an improved standard in APCD work, the course could have been somewhat enjoyable to play.

Download Value: At just over 6mb, this is a small download for any user. Considering there is nothing included within the zip, and the fact that the course doesn't contain any extras, I can only recommend this course to people who enjoy playing really long courses. With no advanced APCD techniques being used and the fact that careful attention wasn't paid to each area of the course, it won't be staying on my hard drive or being burnt to CD.
