LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Ian Downs

A fictional course set in what looks like a parkland, on the edge of a town, as many houses and buildings appear nearby. There are lakes placed here and there to make many holes call for deliberation, and trees scatter the course but are rarely troublesome.

Unsure fully as to whether more work has been done on this course, but the version reviewed was in need of a lot of areas that could have been finished better. But for now, the course review of the other areas continues.

The course is very playable, and considered quite easy. The hole lengths vary, but little thought is needed from most tees except on a couple of par 4' s and a par 5. The fairways are wide enough to hit, and most hazards are either bunkers or the odd waters edge. Scatterings of buildings and flowers here and there make the course visually ok. There is a green edged with logs in a small area of water too.

The areas that did need improvement stand out visually though. Many bunkers although extruded were in need of levelling better and some would perhaps appear more real if the work on the terrain around them were contoured better. One on the 13th fairway was extremely elevated and pulled/creased badly. Various fringes were also not finished, and one of note was the front of the 11th green. The expanses of water were other areas where the edging and terrain need better facing textures. On many edges the terrain changes where it appears no surrounding shape to the lake was fully connected. Causing some edges to be rocks, rough and fairway along several stretches. One fringe area was also noted to be similar too, around the 2nd green where a vert appears missing and the fringe simply stops and becomes green. The 15th hole to the right of the green has a large lip in the fairway where a vert is pulled out of place. These things are also noted with dark shadows in the top views too.

All in all, the course has a pleasant feel, with the finishing touch of forest terrain and mulch, but a lot of areas appear in-complete and some time could still be spent on this course finishing up.

Reviewer Notes: by Doug Jensen

This reviewer plays using hardware rendering at 1024 x 768 32 bit color. I play No Wind, Medium and Moderate and play the back tees. I play my normal round and consider myself a average links player. My ratings are from 1 (very bad) to 10 (very good) for Visuals and 1 (very easy) to 10 (very hard) for all other ratings.

Chad Demster is the designer of Koscuisko G.C. Koscuisko G.C. is a Park style course with trees, sand traps and water and an array of flowers and bushes. Chad did a wonderful job on his 1st design. This is a very well designed course and visually looks very good. On the 1st green, I noticed the trees behind the green were at an angle but did not notice this anywhere else on the course.

Visuals: Koscuisko G.C. looked great to me although I think a designer would notice a few rough edges.

Off the Tee: Your tee shots at Koscuisko G.C. are tough from time to time. Hole #8 will give you a choice of driving to the green on the short Par 4 or laying up. Trees await those who take the chance. There are very narrow landing areas on Holes #11, #13, #16 and #18. #16 is another short Par 4.

The Approach: Your approach shots onto the greens at Koscuisko G.C. are easy to moderate. There are slopes to negotiate on some fairways but the greens are very receptive to you approach shot as the pins or in the center for the most part.

Putting: Putting is easy to moderate at Koscuisko G.C. There is a tester putt awaiting you on #15 but most of the greens on the other greens are easy to moderate.

Great 1st design by Chad. Good Luck on your next course.
