LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Designer: This is Robert Milinchuk's first release.

Course: The course has a simple use, and that is to allow people to practice their accuracy off the tee, from both long and short distances. It can be used as a full and complete course to play on, but that was not it's intention. As this course though was intended for practice purposes, it would have been better if all parts of the player's game were able to be tested, so it could have been better if the holes were perhaps spread out with different distances, elevations and hazards, rather than all lined up in a row with the tees going left to right.

Favourite Hole: As Bobs Driving Range is essentially not a course, it was hard to select anything in particular, so I guess my favourite was the Par 4 on Hole 1, as it was the longest hole on the course, and therefore really tested the length and accuracy of the players driving abilities off the tee.

Playability: If you use this solely as a driving range, the course will really test your accuracy with driving, with the fairway being quite tight and greens very small. By playing this as a course, it is extremely easy, with it being completely flat, and most of the Par 4's being eagle opportunities, but it can be quite hard knowing which pin your supposed to be aiming at, so judging distance is an important key to shooting a good score.

Technically: As this was a 2001 course, no advanced APCD techniques were included, but the blending between textures and the lipping technique in the bunkers could have been improved. For this course to have been better technically, it really needed to look cleaner in terms of the textures and visual stimuli used, while elevating some of the greens or tees wouldn't have been that difficult to implement.

Other: The course did contain a cameo, handicaps and a splash screen, but didn't include a custom flag or hole previews. I'd recommend to the designer that in the future, even with simple concepts like a driving range, that he needs to include a read-me in the zip file to explain the purpose of the course and how the player should use it, while doing whatever is possible to make the course more pleasing to the player, so that they will enjoy practicing on it for long periods of time.

Download Value: Being just over 2mb, the course is very small, but considering that the zip file contains nothing more than the course itself, I can really only recommend this to people who are looking for something to test their driving accuracy on. Even though this could be helpful to many people, there have been other practice courses released with more options available to the player in the past, so this won't be staying on my hard drive.
