LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Designer: This is Murray McIntosh's first course release.

Course: At the first tee, the course looks promising, with a difficult shot to the green below, however, from then on, the design became quite repetitive, as all of the hole designs were straight, with the majority containing a set of three bunkers behind the green, and the only real difference in each hole was the variation in the distance. Par 3 courses have always been a good way to improve on the accuracy of shots, but with trees hanging over fairways, greens, and over whelming the golfer completely like on Hole 17, the hole designs stop golfers from relaxing and enjoying their round. Holes 1 and 16 were the only vastly different designed holes on the course, and in future, it would be strongly recommended that the designer include more interesting holes like those two throughout the whole course.

Favourite Hole: My favourite hole was Hole 1, a hole designed with an elevated blind tee shot down to the green below, forcing the golfer to make a wise decision on which club they should select, and one of the only really different designs on the course.

Playability: As the holes are all straight, unless the golfer plays in windy conditions, generally each shot is going to be relatively easy, however, as there are numerous blind tee shots throughout the course, it is recommended that to score well, golfers need to capitalize on the scoring opportunities presented on the shorter holes. The bunkers found on each hole will rarely come into play, but even so, due to the somewhat severe curve and slope found on the greens, putting will not at all be easy, and any golfer who can get a birdie should be happy with their play.

Technically: Even though this course has been designed using the APCD 1.5, it still is quite primitive with its technical features, as none of the textures were clean cut or seam blended, planting on many of the holes were cloned, while on the outer sides of the water, which were not edged with the land, the reflections of the trees came up very badly. Some of the planting seemed to be of a low resolution, a building behind the Hole 5 green was very pixelated, while the vertical bunker in the wall behind the Hole 13 green was not at all very nice to look at. It just seemed as if many of the things included served no purpose, as there was three tee areas, but only one tee, while the walkway going over part of the course simply stopped in mid air. The course was released initially for public beta testing, but in the future, I would recommend that the designer have his courses tested privately, take advantage of the many APCD tutorials, and take more time concentrating on both the course design, and how it is created technically in the APCD.

Other: The course did contain both a cameo and splash screen, but did not include Handicaps or Hole Previews. Unfortunately, the zip file contained just the course file, so in future, the designer should include a read-me in the zip, as then people can understand the history of the course and the process the designer went through in creating it.

Download Value: At just over 7mb, the course is certainly not a large download, and considering there are no extras included in the zip file, I would only recommend the course to fans of Par 3 courses or people who wish you to improve on the accuracy of their shots. The design lacked in creativity, and technically was not very well done, so it won't be staying on my hard drive.
