LINKS CORNER REVIEW

This is his first course but as I'm writing this I see another has been loaded into the course database. The tee box ranged from a normal looking texture to a jet black one. Why, well he had the shadows so deep over the box it looks like the texture is a black one, no gaps or green showing through. The fairways have a nice mowed texture without a first cut, it would have looked much better with a first cut that blended the rough into the fairway instead of a sharp line dividing the two. The rough has a medium looking texture to it, nothing outstanding. The greens have a checkerboard pattern with a nice sized fringe. The fairways are large and quite easy to hit in spite of the few bunkers with reddish orange sand labeled 'desert sand', on a tropical course, could this be a 'fantasy course' in disguise? To his credit he had minor slopes to all of the fairways, which in them-selves prove to be a diversion from the 'island hopping' you have to endure playing here. The greens had very odd shapes which made for 'fun' tries to hit them because of both their small size and the shapes, expect a few chipping opportunities on this course because of this. The putting was either very flat or had slight breaks and I would consider them easy under non-harsh conditions. The planting, tall palms, short palms and medium palm, what's this.cactus on a tropical course, ok, lets go the fantasy route. The palms, many of them floated and there were a few sharp edges to the rough where it met the fairway otherwise he did a fairly nice job with the APCD. The fields of rocks and the boarders of rocks were either 'burnt orange' or gray but they too became part of the 'same old-same old'.

This is a target course pure and simple, no way around it. You hit from island to island, sometimes changing clubs for the drive but mostly using the driver. It can be enjoyable for a few holes maybe even 9 holes but it does become boring after a while even if you change the shapes and positions of the islands which are all reached by invisible bridges, bring on the beta testers for this entire course.please. I wont mention the tee marker in the rough not in the tee box on hole # 17. He does end with a bang.a 5 par that usually 'caps' off a round of golf but unfortunately it does look much like all the others. The elevation changes aren't great just minor, a few times you'll get the long drive and the caddie seemed to be quite good.

Summing up this fairly attractive course of slightly over 5mb I would say that he, if submitted to beta testing, could build an interesting and good looking course. He seems to have the talent, imagination and more than the usual beginners skills necessary to turn out a quality work. If your looking for something to occupy your time and an extremely small download, are a lover of tropical courses by all means download this but remember that it is a first try that plays well. Try it with some harsh conditions that may prove to be a little more enjoyable. It's not a complete loss as many new designers courses are but it will have to be evaluated on its own merit. I'll just say that yes its playable not horrible.
