LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Mat Leclair

March 2003

Technically speaking, the course was not put together very well. I found numerous times where the water surrounded the tee box. I even saw one hole where the tee maker was sitting in the water. The designer also used the stock textures that you see in the APCD. I think that the design was not bad but it needed a lot more time. I think that if the designer worked on it, and maybe with some help from other designers, then it could be made into a much better course. It also seemed that on every hole none of the edges were sharp and rounded. I saw that the edges were probably set to zero and you get that curvy looking edges around everywhere. The designer also extruded just about everywhere giving the sharp lines everywhere, even around the rough of the bunkers.

The course had a little bit of creativity worked into it. I found that it challenged me on some parts of the course, but mainly all I had to do was hit a driver into the fairway or onto the green and then either hit about a 60 yard shot into the green or be putting for eagle. I think that I ended up with 3 or 4 eagles on the course. I though that the 18th hole was pretty good. With some time, I think, the course could become better.

The course was flat and too easy. It was only about 6200 yards and most of the time all I had to do was hit driver and then a lob wedge into every hole. Even on the par 5s I was still hitting only 6 and 7 irons into the greens. Some of the holes I found to be interesting enough to catch my attention and think about what I needed to do to make birdie of eagle. Some of the risk-reward holes were really good in my mind. Some of the island or peninsula greens really testes your accuracy. I think that if the greens were a little bit smaller and if the course had more time to be worked on, I think that the course would be a bit more challenging.

I saw a splash screen, but no cameo image. The splash screen was fair IMO. It was a little pixilated though. I saw a few bridges out there but they were almost floating off the ground. Also, I noticed a house that was off the ground behind the 9th green (not sure about the hole, but I think it was the 9th).

I think that the course was released too quickly. It could have been that it was the designer's first course (not sure on that). If it was, then it was not a bad first design. If the designer could just work on the course a little bit more, then I think that it would turn out much better.
