Lets start with a short history of the Kaden trilogy, if you would. The three courses A, B, and C, are all nine-hole courses. What is very successfully attempted here is to make 3 18-hole courses out of them. He has mixed C+B, B+A, and A+C, which I will give you a short review of. We first saw this course exactly 1 year ago made for Links 2001, at that time it was very well and extensively reviewed by Mike Nifong. Güenter has just updated them for the 2003 Links not of course relaying and changing the mode of play because they are after all real courses. He has done some minor but very attractive updating by using the new textures, fixing some of the 2D objects and changing, for the better as far as I can tell, some of the sound files.
The new textures and the shadows that have been added have immensely improved the look of this magnificent year old course and turned it into a magnificent new course, just wait until you see it in links 2003. Carefully crafted tee boxes, a mowed fairway with first cut and a checkerboard green with a carefully blended fringe are just the start. The full and beautifully chosen assortment of trees lining the fairways plus their undergrowth of a scrub type tall grass set the tone for an enjoyable round of golf. The treatments and bridges at the water hazards make you feel as if you were there. The course has water throughout but on the front nine it is more decorative than hazardous and on the back nine besides being attractive it now presents itself as a hazard. The fairway bunkers throughout the course seem to be very well placed but because of the nicely sized fairways they are mostly harmless. The bunkers at the green are what I would call 'passively' placed on the front nine and a little more aggressive on the back nine. The greens are medium and have wonderful breaks if you are near the cup or far. There aren't exaggerated elevation changes but where there are some minor ones the caddie is very helpful. The holes are amazing and very imaginative in their shapes and you will enjoy them as I did. Hole #5, par 4, 396y could be such a nice risk/reward hole but the water bisecting the fairway is just too well placed from the back tees to clear and I was forced to lay-up with a 3w.
What can you say about a course that has been a perennial favorite for a year that hasn't already been said. It constantly makes the top of everyone's best course list and justifiably so. In his review Mike gave it a 97 and made it a 'must' download. I also feel It is a must download, this combination of the two courses has been the most popular of the three. Download it and have a good round, enjoy.
