Attempting a tropical island course

Working my way round the coast putting in small lava cliffs at the moment

Not sure how long it will take or even if I will complete it. Depends if I can get the cliffs to look right

Needs a big Easter Island head in the middle or something. Laugh

~~If you're afraid that your full shot might reach the green while the foursome ahead of you is still putting, you have two options: you may immediately shank a lay-up, or you can wait until the green is clear and then top a ball halfway there.~~

Basic elevation of the cliffs is done, just need to work out the best way to may them look realistic now.

Many thanks to Lez Marwick for permission to use some of his Anakena Beach textures. Would also like to contact the designer of Kapa'a Golf Resort and Spa but he doesn't appear to have been around for a while

Might I suggest thsat you visit the Waikoloa Hotel website. The resort is on the Big Island and features 2 golf courses that both feature lots and lots of lava-I speak from personal experience. It an interesting thing to see your tee shot drift off the fairway into the lava and bounce...and bounce...and bounce...and bounce...

Another tip-when (if) your drive lands on the fairway, you hear a kind of "hollow" bouncing sound. Somebody help me out here-that's the best way I can describe it-not that I eard it too often (see previous paragraph).

The problem I can see at the minute, Steve, is that if you continue around the course in this direction, every single hole is going to have the water on its right, which is a bit dull in the long run.

Can I suggest a traverse over the mountains at some point in order to change the flow? I'm not averse to a few fantasy elements in courses, as you know, so a hole pushing over an extinct volcano or the like sounds quite promising.

Holes 10, 11 & 12 move inland a bit. The Par 3 13th goes back to the coast. Then 14 & 15 go back inland before you come back out for 16.
The par 3 17th is on the peninsular and 18 is a Par 5 round the coast, teeing off on the peninsular.

Which was the MS course with loads of lava outcrops? Was it Entrada at Snow Canyon?

Maybe worth a look for some guiders.

Good luck with it SS.

Thumb Up

First 12 holes roughly laid out. Now working on meshing the paths.

This is from above the 6th fairway

I don't really think the water always on the right is that big of a problem. Holes 4-10 are that way on Pebble 14-17 on Cypress have the ocean on the right. Thumb Up

Stephen,
Just got back home from a 4 week stint in the hospital for lung surgery and in a PT Center.

I am raring to get back to Links.

If you need any beta testing I, and my AI TEsters, will be at your beck and call. Just holler.

Jerry

God grant me the SERENITY to accept the shots I miss, the COURAGE to never give up and the WISDOM not to throw away my clubs in the water.

Still working away on this Whistle

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

All 18 holes are now laid out and I have blended some of the first hole to get an idea of the look I want.

Played a quick round to see where the work needed doing and I have found that from the back tees the course is only just over 7000 yards.

I have therefore started adding extras tees to increase the length a little.
Having done the first 6 holes, I have added just under 100 yards

I like this hole routing you've developed Stephen --- 17 & 18 looking like a nice pair of finishing holes

can't wait to see how you handle the elevations, fairway terrain, green slope and traps on each hole
