using Carnoustie 2007 #1891
To all,
Course is baked out. They say 100 yds roll on tee shots.
Greens are slow and receptive.
I played a practice round at B F(C) F(C) I would consider these greens to be mod friendly.
To duplicate the fast conditions, I think F(C) F(C) is the way to go.
What do you all think?

I agree Bill. The greens are pretty flat. Playable at that speed.

Previously someone had posted stimpmeter readings for all combination of conditions. F/c F/c is listed at 18. Not sure if I believe that, but if it's accurate there's no way the greens at the Open will be at that speed. They are usually slower than the average PGA tour speeds, more like 11.

On the European Tour I run over at LSPN, I am using the conditions in Bold in the order they appear in the list. I.m hoping 15.5 isn't too much

mashie and pmgolf,
It's a shame that the fairway hardness and the green speed are combined into one. These Open conditions are impossible to duplicate. Maybe F(C) M(C) is the way to go as a compromise.

You're right Bill, wish they could be set differently. I think the conditions that Steve has listed look about right.

There are people who believe that Links has perfectly captured real-life stimp speed. I have my doubts. I think F Fc or Fc Mc would approximate 11 to 12 Stimp, but I'll admit I could be wrong. Probably not by much, though.
I've heard golf commentators describe stimp 15 greens as like putting on a glass tabletop. That's the way I feel with Fc Fc. I've never heard anyone mention stimp 18 greens.

Bill, perhaps at the links players discretion, play up at tee to make the drives more fitting to the playing conditions. I guess Rickey hit a 432yd drive yesterday.

I was really surprised that -5 was leading when I came home from work. -5 was leading at 6AM EST. With the conditions, I thought these guys would tear this place up.
