using Greenbrier The Old White by John Brooks #2387

Thanks to John Brooks for making this course available to us. Gives us play-alongs another real course used on the PGA Tour.

In looking at this course, some pin locations on some greens are on some severe slopes. Therefore, I will be setting my conditions as if I'm playing a pre-mod course. Even M M(C) is too fast for some hole locations.

Just a heads up.

To all,

I took the time to go over every pin on every hole. Here are my opinions:

Hole 1:
Hole 2:
Hole 3: 0x,1x,2x,3?,5?,6?
Hole 4;
Hole 5:
Hole 6: 5?,8?
Hole 7: 0?
Hole 8:
Hole 9: 3?,6?,8?
Hole 10: 0?,1?,3?,5?,6?,7?,8?
Hole 11 1?,2?,3?,4?,5?,6?,7?,8?
Hole 12: 2?,3?,4?,6?,8?
Hole 13: 7?
Hole 14: 0?,1?,3?,6x,7x,8x
Hole 15: 1?,3?,4?,5?,6x,8x
Hole 16: 0?,1?,3?,8?
Hole 17: 0?,2?,4?,5?,7?
Hole 18 1?,2?,5?

x - denotes a pin that is totally unplayable on all conditions
? - denotes a pin that is on a slope, but is playable on F F, unplayable on faster mod speeds.

John Brooks, please take notice.

Just my opinion

Thanks for your comments and message received!

OK, will amend pin locations as indicated when I get a minute (currently working on Ballyliffin Glashedy - the Irish Open this week).

What I normally do as I build a course is to put out 9 pins (3 easy, 3 moderate, 3 hard) and 5 tees. At the end, I usually slope the greens but leave the pins as they are. I then play the course a couple of times off the back tees (like nearly everyone else) and hard settings. Obviously, I must have gone a bit over the top!!!!!!!

Cheers

Hi Bill -

Presumably it's Greenbrier this week - haven't looked at Sky this side of the pond yet. It's also the Irish Open over here this week and the Scottish Open next week, followed by our Open at Carnoustie which is also a USPGA Tour event. Some US PGA Pros are currently in Europe getting acclimatised to Links golf (Justin Thomas was at the French Open last week).

Have sent LC a revised Beta of Greenbrier - have flattened one or two greens and amended some pin positions - however there really are some pretty severe slopes on some of the greens - for example the 3rd has a great big dip in the middle. Anyway, it should all be playable now - if you have any more problems, please let me know.

Also, I see your pins are numbered 0-8, whereas whenever I build a Course they're numbered 1-9 (1-3 easy, 4-6 normal, 7-9 hard). Any particular reason why?

Cheers

John Brooks

Thumb Up
