COURSE NOTES
Bramshaw Golf Club, Brook, Lyndhurst, Hampshire

THE MANOR COURSE
Set amidst the beautiful New Forest (well, it was “New” in 1100 – a typical English quirk!) in landscaped parkland of mature trees and hardwood plantations on a private estate, the Manor Course was opened in 1970, and has since matured well, and has been lengthened and refined.

The Course is gently undulating, with excellent fairways that demand accurate, well-placed drives and good approach shots, and a few streams and ditches to pose additional problems.

The Manor Course is a sharp contrast to its sister, the Forest Course, which is the oldest in Hampshire (1880), and which is set in open Forest land, with blind ditches, grazing animals and other hazards, and which is being computerised at the moment.

APCD
Although this computerised course is a fairly accurate rendering, I have been forced to use a bit of artistic licence here and there to make some holes a little more challenging – after all, with the normal Links Golfer’s ability to hit a ball 275 yards off the tee, some hazards are just taken right out of play. In addition, the Course opened in 1970 when modern golf technology was in its infancy and things like Metal Woods and Balata Balls that travelled obscene distances were in the future. In fact, in the Guinness Book of Records for that year, the maximum golf driving distance at sea level was stated to be 270 yards (oh yeh?!?!)

Thanks to all those on Links Corner whose invaluable constructive criticism has helped immensely.
